ICYMI: “House Republicans Intensify Health Care Oversight”

Brady: "Because of the great work of our oversight subcommittee, we now know the Administration deliberately broke the law"

House Republicans Intensify Health Care Oversight

CQ Roll Call

EXCERPTS:

“House Republicans are demanding information in letters and even subpoenas from the Obama administration’s health care agencies far more often this year than their counterparts overseeing other agencies.”

“Republicans on the Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means committees have this year sent four separate waves of subpoenas seeking more information about the implementation of the 2010 health law. Only three other committees with jurisdiction over specific agencies even filed a single subpoena this year, according to a CQ Roll Call review of documents.”

“Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, who chairs the Ways and Means committee, disagrees that his committee’s efforts are partisan. His panel in particular has focused on investigations into how the administration funded some of the health care law’s subsidies, as well as how it funded the so-called Basic Health Program, an option in the law to allow states to use federal tax subsidies to help cover low-income individuals with earnings still too high to qualify for Medicaid.”

“‘Because of the great work of our oversight subcommittee, we now know the Administration deliberately broke the law to fund key parts of a failing health care program,’ he said in a statement, referring to the case on cost-sharing subsidies. ‘We will continue to hold the Administration accountable and ensure the American people get the answers they deserve.'”
