#NoBudgetNoPay Legislation Introduced

Bill Provides a Short-Term Increase in the Deb Limit and Requires the House and Senate to Pass a Budget Before Members of Congress Get Paid

Washington, DC – Today, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) introduced the #NoBudgetNoPay bill, H.R. 325, which provides for the following:
 
1) Allows the United States Treasury to issue new debt through May 18, 2013, in order to ensure complete and timely payment of obligations due; and,
2) Withholds pay from Members of Congress starting on April 15, 2013, until whichever occurs first: the respective body in which they serve (the House or Senate) passes a budget or the end of the Congress.
 
House Administration Committee Chairwoman Candice Miller (R-MI) was an original co-sponsor.  The Committee on Ways and Means has jurisdiction over the debt limit.  The Committee on House Administration has jurisdiction over salaries of Members of Congress.
