The Myth of the Democrats’ Bipartisanship

June 19, 2009

As House Democrats prepare to release their health care plan today – a plan that no Republican member has seen or been invited to be a part of – Democrat Congressman Jim Cooper dispels the myth of President Obama bringing “change” to Washington, DC, and his promise to make health care reform a bipartisan effort.

In the House of Representatives, meanwhile, we are explicitly told not to work with Republicans,” Cooper wrote in a blog post.

“Jim Cooper deserves a lot of credit for speaking out,” said Ways and Means Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI).  “He and I don’t agree on everything, but we have had some good conversations and if the Speaker allowed bipartisanship to flourish, true health care reform that promotes affordable and accessible coverage at a price we can afford would be a lot more likely. The Democrat-only dialogue we have seen to this point isn’t the kind of ‘change’ Americans expected.”
