What are Congressional Democrats Saying About Obamacare?

March 17, 2010

Over the last week, a growing number House Democrats have been echoing the concerns of the American people, namely that Obamacare will bankrupt the country, will fail to reduce the cost of health insurance and will cut Medicare benefits.

Some House Democrats have spoken out against Obamacare, despite the lure of secret kickbacks to members who vote “yes” and despite ominous threats that Democrats who vote “no”:

Here is what a few brave House Democrats have recently said about the Senate-passed bill:

Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-NC)

“Health care reform is needed, but the bill before us is too expensive, does not adequately address rising medical costs and skyrocketing insurance premiums, and tries to do too much too soon.  We simply cannot afford to create a new federal bureaucracy that costs nearly $1 trillion when our national debt is $12 trillion and there is no plan in place to address it.” 3/15/2010

Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN)

“We’re not doing anything serious about holding costs down.” 3/16/2010

Rep. Rick Boucher (D-VA)

“I am persuaded that Medicare cuts at that level would impair the delivery of health care within our region.”  3/13/2010

Rep. Tim Holden (D-PA)

“I will not vote for the Senate bill. It makes significant cuts to Medicare and Medicaid.”  3/11/2010
