WASHINGTON, DC — This afternoon, as part of the Surface Transportation and Veterans Health Care Choice Improvement Act, the House voted to extend the authorization for our highways and transit program through October 29. The legislation also provides funding estimated to close the highway trust fund shortfall through December. Following House passage, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) released the following statement:
“We all want a long-term plan to fix our roads and bridges, but paying for it is a big challenge. Today’s action gives us the time we need to write a bill that provides the funding and certainty that our states and communities need. Getting this done will require all sides—Republican and Democrats, the House and Senate—to work together. We need to aim high, and that’s why I urge the Senate to pass this bill so we can get to work.”
