Brady: FY18 Budget Resolution Crucial Step Forward for Tax Reform

July 18, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement after the House Budget Committee introduced its Fiscal Year 2018 budget resolution, which includes reconciliation instructions allowing the Ways and Means Committee to complete two separate and distinct tasks: (1) growing the economy through revenue-neutral tax reform and (2) identifying savings that move us toward a balanced budget.

“Today, the House Budget Committee introduced the crucial vehicle that will drive permanent, pro-growth tax reform over the finish line this year. For too long our tax code has stood in the way of more jobs, bigger paychecks, a stronger economy, and a more competitive America. And with the House, Senate, and the Trump Administration working together, we have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fix our nation’s broken tax code.

“This budget resolution gives us the green light to move forward with tax reform legislation that will improve the lives of workers, families, and job creators for generations to come. It recognizes the need for bold, permanent tax reform that balances within the budget so we can deliver the certainty and economic growth Americans deserve.”

“Separate from tax reform, the budget resolution also allows us to make federal programs in our jurisdiction more efficient – identifying opportunities that will save taxpayer dollars and move America toward a balanced budget.

“I appreciate Chairman Black and the Budget Committee for working with us. I look forward to taking the next steps on tax reform.”
