Week in Review: Ways and Means Members Are Ready to Deliver Tax Reform to Hardworking Americans

October 13, 2017

House Republicans continued working this week to turn our unified framework for pro-growth tax reform into legislation that President Trump can ultimately sign into law. As the committee responsible for starting the legislative process to overhaul today’s broken tax code, Ways and Means Members have been talking directly to hardworking Americans about how tax reform will improve their lives.

Check out what our members are saying:

Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) on FOX Business talked about the need for making America the most competitive place in the world to do business:

“If we permanently allow our companies, when they compete and win around the world, to bring those earnings back to be reinvested in America – in new jobs, new research, new manufacturing, innovation – not only will jobs grow, paychecks will grow as well.”

Rep. Patrick Tiberi (R-OH) wrote in Medium about how our plan will help hardworking families:

“This isn’t about the 1 percent. … it is about parents who are looking for a fair shot at the American Dream.”

Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS) set the record straight in an op-ed for FOX News regarding reports that claim that the GOP framework is the same plan that was tried in her home state of Kansas:

“Simply stating that Washington’s tax reform is the exact same thing as Kansas’ tax reform is incorrect. We learned from Kansas’ missteps and took steps to correct them – because you, the taxpayer, deserve better.”

Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) discussed on FOX Business the need for creating a simpler, fairer tax code:

“I have no doubts that a tax cut would grow the economy. And it’s not just a tax cut, it’s reducing that complexity, reducing the cost of compliance. And keeping that money in the economy is far more efficient.”

Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) went live on Twitter and did a Q&A session on how our tax plan will help families:

“We’re proposing a flatter and fairer tax code for everyone. …doubling the standard deduction will help low-income and middle-income Americans primarily because they can keep more of their first dollars earned. This is a great step forward to making sure middle-income Americans enjoy a prosperous future.”

Rep. Diane Black (R-TN) took questions on CNBC about the budget that was passed out of the House and how this budget will provide the runway for pro-growth tax reform:

“We do want to keep that corporate tax down. We want to make sure small businesses get that tax break at 25%. And we also want to make sure that the middle income are the ones that are protected.”

Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY) talked with Gray TV about how our plan will help individuals and families:

“Going from the individual code down to that 25% rate…there’s some huge wins.”

Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) joined FOX Business and highlighted the openness of the tax reform process:

“This is really refreshing. From the seven years I’ve been here [in Congress], I have never seen it this open and with this much involvement.”

Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH) on FOX Business talked about how tax reform will help keep jobs here in America:

We have to lower our corporate tax rate so businesses don’t leave our country, and at the same time we have to give the middle class more money in their pockets.”
