WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement in response to the Labor Department’s October 2017 jobs report:
“I’m pleased to see more jobs added to the economy this month – a clear sign communities in Texas and Florida are recovering after the devastating hurricanes earlier this year. We’re moving in the right direction, and with the pro-growth tax reform legislation we introduced yesterday, I’m confident this positive trend will continue.
“The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will reinvigorate today’s slow-growing economy so hardworking families will be able to find a good-paying job, earn a raise, and get ahead – instead of settling for the disappointing wages they have had for years. Ways and Means Republicans are moving forward next week with this legislation, and by the end of the year Congress and President Trump will deliver a new tax code that grows the economy, brings jobs back home, and increases paychecks.”
Note: The U.S. Department of Labor reported today that the economy added 261,000 jobs in October and the unemployment rate was 4.1 percent. The jobs report covers the 50 states and District of Columbia, but not Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
