Washington, D.C. – The top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement after the House voted on H.R. 2339, a tax hike bill Democrats’ claim might somehow stem teen vaping:
“This tax hike bill would only encourage Americans to return to smoking cigarettes. This bill is a poster child for ‘legislative false advertising.’ It’s a Washington money grab to grow government that would lead to increased regular cigarette use and decreased smoking cessation.
“In a major step towards ending teen vaping, Republicans have raised the purchase age of tobacco and most vaping products to 21. We should be working to build on those efforts, instead of sabotaging these successes with a sham.”
