During the coronavirus pandemic, Americans have been stepping up to help support those in need during these difficult times.
Below are a few examples:
Donated Remdesivir Shipped to Hundreds of Hospitals
The Department of Health and Human Services announced that, thanks to a donation by Gilead Sciences Inc., cases of remdesivir are being shipped to hospitals in Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, and New Jersey.
Remdesivir, according to the National Institutes of Health and Gilead, is a drug that has been “associated with faster recovery” for patients with COVID-19. Getting this drug into more hospitals could lead to a faster recovery for thousands of Americans.
More Health Care Support
UnitedHealth Group is providing over $1.5 billion in assistance to families, helping more Americans access health care during this pandemic. This will help millions of families with their health care needs.
The health insurer is also stepping up to support programs for individuals who are experiencing homelessness, helping to provide Americans with nonperishable food products and other items.
Increased Access to Telemedicine
The company 98point6 partnered with Boeing, Chipotle, Circle K, and KinderCare to offer their workers 24/7 access to physicians though the convenience of their cell phone, allowing them to have quick access to care while following social distancing and stay-at-home guidelines.
“The dedication to employee health that we’ve seen from leaders at Boeing, Chipotle, Circle K, and KinderCare to not only provide virtual care to their employees, but to expedite the process speaks volumes about where their priorities lie during this difficult time,” Robbie Cape, CEO and co-founder of 98point6, said.
A Well-Deserved Vacation
America’s medical workers are still putting in countless hours to help patients and defeat the coronavirus. While this fight is not over, for the staff at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York, a free vacation is on the horizon.
American Airlines and Hyatt Hotels have teamed up to offer the entire staff at Elmhurst a complimentary vacation. Elmhurst, which has been a hotspot for COVID-19 cases, employs 4,000 people. Every worker – from the doctors to the food service workers – will receive a free trip as part of this initiative.
