Key points:
-The Trump Administration announced today that they are awarding over $4 billion in relief payments to hospitals serving some of our most vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
-The Administration has consistently delivered additional funds to health care providers in rural regions and those serving at safety-net hospitals – ensuring that Americans most at-risk can receive the health care they need as we continue to fight this virus.
– Additionally, dentists will now be eligible to apply for Provider Fund relief for the first time.
Details:
Of this $4 billion distribution, the Department of Health and Human Services announced approximately $3 billion will be awarded to 315 acute care safety net hospitals serving vulnerable populations and $1 billion will be going to over 500 rural hospitals and small metropolitan area hospitals.

Eligible dentists will receive a reimbursement of two percent of their annual reported patient revenue and will have until July 24, 2020 to apply for funding through the Enhanced Provider Relief Fund Payment Portal.
“We’ve been distributing the Provider Relief Funds as quickly as possible to those providers who have been hardest hit by the pandemic,” Secretary Alex Azar said. “President Trump is supporting hospitals in continuing to provide COVID-19 care and returning to everyday procedures, especially hospitals that serve vulnerable and minority populations. Close work with stakeholders informed how we targeted this new round of funds to hard-hit safety-net and rural providers.”
These relief funds continue to build on the work that Congress and the Trump Administration are doing to help Americans across the country defeat this virus. In June, the Administration boosted health care funding to help children and vulnerable citizens. The Administration also outlined steps they were taking to help Black Americans and other racial and ethnic minorities fight COVID-19.
