The Social Security Administration released new information today guiding taxpayers to how they can receive services from the agency while staying safe in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Agency noted that they offer services by phone and online. These services include, but are not limited to:
- Applying for retirement, disability, and Medicare benefits.
- Checking the status of an application or appeal.
- Requesting a replacement Social Security card (in most areas).
- Printing a benefit verification letter.
For beneficiaries who cannot be served via online and telephone services, the Agency said they can work to schedule an in-person appointment.
“If you need help, please don’t wait until we can see you in person,” Mike Korbey, deputy commissioner for communications at SSA said. “Call us now and get the help you need. We also understand that getting medical and other documentation can be difficult due to the pandemic, so we are continuing to extend certain deadlines wherever possible.”
