THE WOODLANDS – The top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement after the second estimate of third-quarter gross domestic product was announced, showing that the economy grew at an unrevised rate of 33.1 percent:
“Our actions to fight the virus and provide meaningful relief have resulted in unprecedented growth—and with news about a vaccine being ready very soon, American families and small businesses are even better positioned to return back to normal.
“The biggest risk to continued growth are the possibility of higher taxes on families, workers, and local businesses, as well a COVID aid package that meanders through a socialist agenda rather than focusing on saving jobs and businesses.”
Background: In addition to continued growth, Americans were better able to access health care, due to Republican ideas like expanding telehealth, leading to a significant increase in growth in that sector. Health care access was harmed, however, by the pandemic curtailing patients receiving elective procedures, a reminder that lockdowns kept people from getting the care they needed. Speaker Pelosi needs to stop injecting politics into our efforts to provide targeted reform, so we can focus on the safety and health of all Americans heading into this holiday season.
