WASHINGTON, DC – Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA), Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA), and the top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement after the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) released a report that the officials requested of the agency regarding U.S. industry sectors producing COVID-related goods:
“Today, the U.S. International Trade Commission released its analysis of industry sectors producing COVID-related goods pursuant to a request we made in August. This request built upon another report that the USITC released in May, which identified import data of medical supplies and products relevant to COVID-19. Today’s report includes a thorough analysis of U.S. industries producing these goods and conducts in-depth case studies of specific products within critical sectors and their supply chains.
“We want to express our sincere gratitude to the Commission for its exemplary work, especially given the expedited timeline for our requests. The report demonstrates the Commission’s expert, nonpartisan analysis, and its findings will be immensely useful as the Committees continue to grapple with supply chain issues.
“The Commission’s report highlights sectors where supply and demand have stabilized and others where challenges persist. This report provides further evidence of existing shortages and bottlenecks, the reliance on imports for certain products and components, the benefits of increasing domestic manufacturing capacity, and the need to ensure greater supply chain resiliency. The Commission’s expert analysis will be invaluable for the Committees’ work on these matters.”
