Smith: Small Business Job Losses Courtesy of Biden-Harris Admin Policies Will Worsen If Democrats Let Tax Cuts Expire

July 31, 2024

WASHINGTON – Businesses with fewer than 50 workers lost jobs in July, the first time since March 2021, according to payroll data collected from small businesses. Paychex’s Small Business Jobs Index, which is based on client information, fell in July, following three months of declines. Small businesses are struggling in the Biden-Harris economy, and particularly in states under Democrat governance – with Vice President Harris’s own home state of California at the very bottom of the list.

“The latest private sector data show how Democrats continue to make it impossible for American small businesses to succeed,” said Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08). “Our economy relies on Main Street for jobs –where half of all Americans are employed. This is why the Republican Tax Teams are traveling across the country, working to prevent the Trump tax cuts from expiring in 2025, and to protect the 20 percent deduction for small businesses that allows them to be competitive with large corporations. Vice President Harris’s promise to repeal these tax cuts is a dangerous step in the wrong direction.”
