WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Republican Tax Teams have been busy during the August session break meeting directly with hard-working Americans. To date, the Teams have held over sixty events to evaluate the impact of the 2017 Trump tax cuts and discuss legislative solutions to protect working families, farmers, small businesses, and manufacturers from the Biden-Harris planned $7 trillion tax hike.
Main Street
Earlier this month, Main Street Tax Team Chair, Rep. Lloyd Smucker (PA-11), hosted a roundtable in York County, Pennsylvania with Rep. Mike Kelly (PA-16) and local small business leaders to discuss how the federal tax policies included in the landmark Trump tax cuts put small businesses on a level playing field with larger corporations. Tax Team leaders also heard from small businesses how these provisions, including the 20 percent small business deduction (Section 199A), are vital to their survival. Prior to the roundtable, Reps. Smucker and Kelly toured small businesses in Shrewsbury and New Freedom to talk with business owners and employees directly.
Global Competitiveness
Global Competitiveness Tax Team Chair, Rep. Kevin Hern (OK-01), hosted Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08), and Reps. Ron Estes (KS-04), Blake Moore (UT-01), and Randy Feenstra (IA-04) for a roundtable in Atlanta, GA to discuss tax policies that will allow American businesses to thrive, create jobs, and compete on a global stage. As Washington Democrats continue to advocate for a tax on workers and job creators higher than that of communist China, Ways and Means Republicans are committed to having a tax code which keeps America as the best place to grow, hire and expand. Tax Team members note how corporate inversions stopped in the U.S. after passage of the 2017 Trump tax cuts.
Rural America
Rural America Tax Team Chair, Rep. Adrian Smith (NE-03), joined by Reps. Randy Feenstra (R-IA) and Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11), embarked on a tour throughout Nebraska and Iowa to hear from manufacturers, agriculture stakeholders, farmers, and energy producers about how the 2017 tax cuts were a boon for job creation, food production, and domestic investment. The tour also included a roundtable with local financial leaders to discuss the positive impact the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit has had on access to housing in rural communities.
Supply Chains
Following a Ways and Means Committee Field Hearing at the Iowa State Fair, Rep. Randy Feenstra (IA-04), co-chair of the Supply Chains Tax Team, along with Reps. LaHood (R-IL) and Ron Estes (KS-04), as well as Rep. Ashley Hinson (IA-02), visited MidAmerican Energy at their wind turbine located in the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The Tax Team discussed the importance of Iowa as a Midwest supplier of energy and the energy tax policy issues that will arise in 2025.
Community Development
Earlier this month, Community Development Tax Team member, Rep. Mike Carey (OH-15), toured an apartment complex in Columbus, Ohio that serves senior citizens over the age of fifty-five. Following the creation of Opportunity Zones in the 2017 Trump tax cuts, the apartment complex received a million-dollar renovation that could have only been made possible by the economic development tool. Rep. Carey heard directly from residents how the renovation, which included a new roof, HVAC systems, and electrical and plumbing improvements drastically improved the lives of its residents.
