WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) released the following statement after the U.S. Senate confirmed South Dakota Governor, and former member of the House Ways and Means Committee, Kristi Noem as the 8th Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security:
“President Trump has acted swiftly to begin securing our southern border, and I applaud my colleagues in the United States Senate for their confirmation of Governor Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security so she may begin her work to end the invasion of our country that was facilitated by the previous administration. In addition to being a great friend, Governor Noem is a tough-as-nails fighter for President Trump and the America First agenda.
“Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, I have no doubt the Department of Homeland Security will once again ensure our borders are secure, our laws are enforced, and our communities are safe.”
