Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) issued the following statement after President Trump’s joint address to Congress:

“President Trump’s leadership is a blueprint for prosperity that rewards hard work, unleashes opportunity, and puts America first. We know this because the policies of President Trump’s first Administration produced the best economy in a generation. Unfortunately, these last four years Americans have seen their hard work undermined by runaway inflation that has slashed their wages and eaten into their savings. That’s why House Republicans passed a budget resolution that carves a path to ushering in a new golden age of prosperity for farmers, families, workers, and small businesses with the largest tax relief in history alongside a secure border, deregulation, and American made energy. President Trump also reaffirmed his pledge to eliminate taxes on tips, overtime pay, and seniors’ Social Security benefits which will help millions of working-class Americans turn the page on the Biden economy that punished working men and women for trying to get ahead. By immediately starting pro-growth tax policies, Republicans will ensure a stronger economy, more opportunity, and a better future for all Americans for generations to come.
