Today Members on both sides of the aisle testified before the Ways and Means Tax Policy Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA), at a hearing on making our current tax system work better. Members presented a wide range of ideas to simplify and improve existing provisions in the tax code and deliver individuals and businesses much-needed tax relief.
Testifying clockwise: Reps. Scalise (R-LA), Jenkins (R-KS), DeFazio (D-OR), Schakowsky (D-IL), Brat (R-VA), and Ellison (D-MN)
As Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) said at the start of the hearing:
“Today’s hearing demonstrates that we are serious about considering tax legislation through an open and transparent process. We’re committed to introducing bills, considering them and moving them to the floor.
“The fact that over 30 Members are sharing their ideas today is a testament to our new process – and to our return after so many years to regular order.”
Rep. Boustany added:
“We are honored to have a number of our esteemed colleagues join us today to present legislation that they have all invested a great deal of time and energy to develop. As Chairman Brady mentioned, it is encouraging that so many of our fellow Members of the House of Representatives have come here today to make a record of their priorities for making improvements to our current Tax Code.”
