The Health Care Forecast for 2018: Insurance Provider Lows and Premium Highs

July 13, 2017

The forecast for Obamacare in 2018 just got even worse. According to a new report from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, there will be 86 fewer insurers in Obamacare’s individual marketplaces next year than in 2017 – reducing the number of insurance options available for families by nearly 40 percent. In fact, the number of insurers in 2018 will be half of what it was just two years ago:

Here’s what 2018 is expected to look like for Americans trapped in Obamacare:

This is not the health care system Americans deserve, which is why House Republicans passed legislation to:

  • Immediately stabilize the collapsing Obamacare marketplaces as we transition to a patient-centered health care system.
  • Lower premiums and expand choices by removing burdensome Obamacare regulations, encouraging innovation and competition and restoring the free market.
  • Deliver immediate relief from Obamacare’s crushing taxes and mandates that have raised premiums and out-of-pocket expenses for necessities like over-the-counter medications; discouraged job creation and wage growth; and forced people into insurance they don’t like and can’t afford to use.
  • Transfer control of health care back to the American people, so they can make the health care choices that are right for them.
  • Provide states with greater flexibility to design programs that work best for their unique populations.
