Ahead of tonight’s State of the Union address, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “Health care, health care, and health care are the three most important issues.” But if that’s true, why won’t she work alongside Republicans to improve Americans’ health care?
Republicans have been leaders on making health care work for families and small businesses throughout the Trump presidency.
Here are just a few health care achievements delivered by President Trump and congressional Republicans:
REPEALED Medical Device Tax: We ended a tax that took a serious toll on innovation in medical devices and cost thousands of researchers their jobs.
REPEALED Health Insurance Tax: Individuals and families will have more money in their pockets thanks to Republicans’ repeal of Obamacare’s tax on health insurers, which was passed on to consumers and resulted in higher premiums for everyone.
REPEALED Cadillac Tax: We eliminated the significant uncertainty caused by Obamacare’s 40 percent excise tax on high-cost employer health plans.
EXTENDED Enhanced Medical Expense Deduction: Republicans ensured more people with high health care costs will continue to be able to deduct more of their medical expenses.
STOPPED Nancy Pelosi’s “Fewer Cures” Bill: We put a stop to Speaker Pelosi’s deadly “Fewer Cures” bill, which would have killed medical innovation. Republicans have put forward provisions that can become a law this year. That’s three more than Pelosi’s bill which estimates showed would lead to the loss of 38 to 100 cures.
EXPANDED Laboratory Access for Seniors: We also fought to ensure that millions of seniors who depend on essential lab tests don’t lose access to these tests based on insufficient data.
PROTECTED Wheelchairs for Patients with Significant Disabilities: We provided important protections to patients with significant disabilities such as ALS, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and spinal cord injury.
