A Growing Economy for Our Nation’s Veterans

November 12, 2018 — Blog

On Veteran’s Day Weekend, we recognize more than 20 million Americans who have selflessly served our country. Unfortunately, over the past decade it’s been hard for many of these brave men and women to find work. America’s slow economic growth meant many veterans have returned home to find Main Street businesses struggling to survive – not hiring new talent.

Thankfully, that’s now changed. Through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, we created a booming economy that’s helping veterans find good paying jobs. In fact, our men and women are now returning home to a great economy with 3 percent growth, seven million open jobs, and rising paychecks.

This is all thanks to our new tax code being built to help American companies and workers compete and win anywhere in the world. We’re seeing businesses of all sizes investing in and hiring veterans. This has provided better job opportunities for our military families and, as a result, the unemployment rate for veterans has dropped from 4.3 percent in 2016 to 2.9 percent last month.

Many businesses across America that are now optimistic about their futures thanks to tax reform are actually owned by veterans. Nearly 1 in 10 businesses in America are owned by veterans and together they have more than 5 million employees.

The men and women who sacrifice everything to defend our freedom deserve job opportunities when returning home. This Veteran’s Day Weekend we thank them for their service and are proud to have 7 million open jobs waiting for them when they get home.
