This past Sunday, on NBC’s Meet the Press, White House Senior Advisor David Plouffe stated, “the president’s goal, and he’s been clear about this, is to protect the middle class as we move forward here…in his term in office, he’s cut taxes for the middle class over and over again…”

It’s a familiar refrain, but unfortunately, the rhetoric doesn’t match the facts.  President Obama has repeatedly increased taxes on middle class American families. 

By the Numbers: President Obama’s middle class tax increases

• President Obama and Congressional Democrats have enacted into law over $685 billion in gross tax increases.
• $333 billion will be collected through tax hikes that hit the very middle class families the President claims to be protecting. 
• Democrats have passed, and the President has signed into law, at least 15 violations of the President’s oft-repeated pledge that, “no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase.”
