Brady Congratulates Former Ways & Means Subcommittee Director Amy Shuart on Selection to Social Security Advisory Board

Ways and Means Committee Republican Leader Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) today praised the appointment of former Ways and Means Republican Social Security Subcommittee Staff Director Amy Shuart to the Social Security Advisory Board (SSAB):

Rep. Brady said:

”I am deeply grateful to outgoing Board member and former Board Chair, Kim Hildred, for her over two decades of service, including at the Ways and Means Committee.”

Background:

  • The Social Security Advisory Board is a bipartisan, independent federal government agency established in 1994 to advise the President, Congress, and the Commissioner of Social Security on matters of policy and administration of the Old-Age, Survivors Insurance,Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income programs. The Board has seven members, with three appointed by the President, two by the Senate, and two by the House of Representatives.
  • Amy Shuart served on the House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee from 2011 to 2021, serving as Subcommittee Staff Director from 2015 to 2021.
  • Kim Hildred has served as the House Republican appointee on the Social Security Advisory Board since September 2016. She previously served as the Subcommittee Staff Director for the House Ways and Means Social Security Subcommittee from 1997 to 2015.
