Brady Statement on GDP Report for 2nd Quarter of 2018

July 27, 2018

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) issued the following statement after the Bureau of Economic Analysis released its report on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2018:

“Congressional Republicans and President Trump promised to change the economic course of the country. Armed with a competitive tax code, bold reforms to regulations, and encouraging news this week on trade, our economy is booming – growing at a 4.1 percent pace this quarter.

“Solid growth should never be a one quarter occurrence; it needs to be the standard in America. While Democrats are declaring their desire to take our country back to a time when Main Street businesses were pessimistic about the future, families paid higher taxes, and our global competitors all leaped ahead of us, Republicans are determined to build on this growth to continue strengthening our economy for workers and families.”

NOTE: Real GDP increased at an annual rate of 4.1 percent in the second quarter of 2018.
