Brady Statement on March 2018 Jobs Report

April 06, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement in response to the Labor Department’s March 2018 jobs report:

The underlying economic fundamentals and outlook for growth remain strong. While this month came in below expectations in terms of job creation, since the start of the new year over 200,000 jobs have been added per month on average. With our new tax law, businesses are expanding and Main Street optimism is soaring.

“We need to sustain this momentum for the long term, which is why I have been working with the Administration to ensure that actions we take to punish countries that trade unfairly are targeted to address that behavior and not our workers and job creators here at home. I look forward to continuing to work with President Trump to build off the success of his tax cuts to keep our economy moving in the right direction.”

Note: The U.S. Department of Labor reported today that the economy added 103,000 jobs in March and the unemployment rate was 4.1 percent.
