Brady Welcomes Proposed Rule to Enhance Integrity of SNAP

July 23, 2019 — Press Releases

Washington, D.C. – Today, the top Republican on the House Ways and Means Committee Kevin Brady (R-TX) released the following statement after the United States Department of Agriculture proposed a new rule to repeal the broad-based categorical eligibility policy within the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), that involves taking advantage of state flexibility in the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program:

“Republicans on the Ways and Means Committee have long led an agenda focused on growing jobs and increasing paychecks.  The Trump Administration is right to close this loophole, implemented under the Obama administration, to ensure that our federal welfare programs are helping families that need it most.  We care about helping families succeed in today’s strong economy, and we look forward to continuing to work with the Administration to help workers and parents climb up the economic ladder.”
