Camp Applauds Michigan’s Efforts to Encourage People with Disabilities to be Engaged in the Workforce

August 11, 2014 — Press Releases

Washington, DC – Today, Representative Dave Camp (R-MI) made the following statement on the release of the “Better Off Working: Disability Reform Work Group Strategic Plan” by the Michigan Department of Human Services, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Disability Determination Service, and the Disability Network and Michigan Employers:

“I applaud the Michigan Department of Human Services as well as the disability community and employers who assembled this strategic plan.  Its goal is the right one – to help more of our fellow citizens with disabilities share their talents and skills in the workplace.  As the report outlines, that will require better coordinating government and private resources to promote work by recognizing and supporting the skills those with disabilities bring to a job.  Achieving such change isn’t easy, but as the report makes clear, the benefits for people will disabilities – as well as the rest of our community – are profound.  Again, this strategic plan is an excellent start, and one that policymakers in Washington D.C., Lansing and every other state capital should review closely.”
