Washington, DC – Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) today released the following statements in response to the Administration’s notification to Congress that the Administration intends to initiate negotiations with Canada as part of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations:

Chairman Camp: “I am pleased that the Administration has formally notified Congress of its intent to have Canada join the TPP negotiations.  Canada’s participation will further increase the value of TPP.  I also appreciate Canada’s commitment to resolve key issues and adopt TPP’s high standards and ambition.  Being from Michigan, I am well aware of the importance of our economic relationship with Canada and our long history of working together to promote economic growth and competitiveness.  I look forward to consulting closely with Ambassador Kirk and his team as we continue our domestic process for Canada to join TPP.”  

Chairman Brady: “I applaud the Administration’s notification of its intent for Canada to join the TPP talks.  Adding our number one trading partner will make TPP an even greater opportunity to expand U.S. exports and create American jobs.  It will also further establish TPP as a Pacific-region agreement incorporating countries from both Asia and the Americas.”
