Camp: Debt Limit Letter Request Requires a Commitment to Reform

January 06, 2011

Washington, DC – Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) today made the following statement in response to an Obama Administration request to increase the debt limit:

“The Obama Administration request to increase the debt limit is a reminder of the responsibility that all of Congress has to work together so we can get our fiscal house in order.  Washington’s spending spree has gone on for far too long, and the American people will not tolerate another debt limit increase without clear action by this Congress and the President to cut spending.  Ending reckless spending and addressing our fiscal responsibilities are top priorities of the American people and must be top priorities for the Congress.”
