Camp Statement on House Passage of Cut, Cap and Balance Act of 2011

July 19, 2011

Washington, DC – Today, Committee on Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) made the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2560, “Cut, Cap and Balance Act of 2011.”

“I was part of the team that balanced the federal budget for the first time in a generation and believe we can and must get back to balancing the books in Washington.  Cut, Cap and Balance is a plan to do that and requires a Balanced Budget Amendment be sent to the states before the debt limit can be increased.  It is the strongest signal that business as usual is over in Washington.  Each and every day, families across this nation act in a responsible way to manage their finances, pay their bills and plan for their future.  The time for Washington to get spending under control is long overdue.  A Balanced Budget Amendment, paired with spending reforms and deficit reduction, can spur a speedier recovery and provide American families and businesses with the opportunity to grow our economy and create the jobs this country needs.”
