Camp Statement on May Jobs Report

June 1, 2012 — Press Releases

Washington, DC – Today, Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) released the following statement in reaction to the May jobs report from the U.S. Department of Labor.  A net total of 69,000 jobs were created and the unemployment rate for May increased to 8.2 percent.

“This jobs report falls disturbingly short – short of the President’s promises, short of the economic forecasts, and, most troubling, short of the needs of American families, especially the 13 million Americans still looking for work.  This abysmal pace of growth has resulted in far fewer jobs than we need to keep up with our growing population, much less bring down the unemployment rate.  After 40 consecutive months with an unemployment rate of eight percent or higher, it should be clear that the policies of the President and Congressional Democrats over the last three years are a failure.”
