CBO Data Boosts Republican Push to Include Lawsuit Reform in Health Care Legislation

October 9, 2009 — Press Releases

Washington, DC – Following today’s announcement by the Congressional Budget Office that substantive medical liability lawsuit reform would reduce health care spending and reduce the deficit by $54 billion over the next 10 years, Ways and Means Ranking Member Dave Camp (R-MI) issued the following statement:

“Republicans have said from day one that lawsuit reform must be included in any health care bill that is serious about reducing costs for families, employers and taxpayers. Instead of raising taxes and slashing Medicare, Democrats should put the interests of the American people ahead of the interests of trail lawyers and reduce the deficit by $54 billion by adopting medical liability lawsuit reform.  It is unfortunate that Democrats have chosen to shield their friends in the trial lawyer lobby instead of including these cost saving measures in their bill.”
