Chairman Buchanan Announces Hearing on “Post Tax Reform Evaluation of Recently Expired Tax Provisions”

February 27, 2018 — Hearing Advisory    — Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Ways and Means Tax Policy Subcommittee Chairman Vern Buchanan (R-FL) announced today that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “Post Tax Reform Evaluation of Recently Expired Tax Provisions.”  The hearing will take place on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 in 1100 Longworth House Office Building, beginning at 10:00 AM.

In announcing the hearing, Tax Policy Subcommittee Chairman Buchanan said:

“The hearing we are announcing today is an opportunity to continue to improve our newly reformed tax code by thoroughly examining the policy underlying temporary provisions often called ‘tax extenders.’ The Committee will hear from stakeholders about the role that each of these provisions may play as part of the new tax code.”

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady (R-TX) said:

“America’s new tax code demands a new, forward-looking approach on expired tax provisions known as ‘tax extenders.’ The Ways and Means Committee will apply a rigorous test to these temporary tax provisions. We want to know which provisions are redundant or unnecessary after tax reform, which amplify the growth and competitiveness delivered by our new tax code, and what other provisions stakeholders are willing to give up to preserve a particular provision of interest. Temporary measures that do not satisfy this test after a thorough review should be eliminated so we can further prioritize permanence in policies that will benefit our economy for the long term.

“This is an opportunity to change our approach on extenders, and this hearing is an important step in delivering the certainty and simplicity that Americans need in our nation’s new tax code.”
