House Passes Bills to Protect Public Safety Officers

May 12, 2015 — Press Releases

WASHINGTON — Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 606, the Don’t Tax Our Fallen Public Safety Heroes Act, introduced by Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN), and H.R. 2146, the Defending Public Safety Employees’ Retirement Act, introduced by Rep. Dave Reichert (R-WA). Upon passage, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) released the following statement.

“Every day, law-enforcement officers put themselves in harm’s way to keep the American people safe. Sometimes, they even pay the ultimate sacrifice, and we as a country should honor that sacrifice. We should let retired officers enjoy the full benefits of their retirement, and we should let families of fallen heroes receive the full compensation that is their right. This legislation will protect the hard-earned benefits of our public-safety officers and their families, and I’m proud to support it.”
