Smith Announces Human Resources Subcommittee Hearing on Declining Employment among Working-Age Men

August 30, 2017 — Press Releases

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Ways and Means Human Resources Subcommittee Chairman Adrian Smith (R-NE) announced today that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing titled “Missing from the Labor Force: Examining Declining Employment among Working-Age Men” on Wednesday, September 6, at 2:00 PM in room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building. This hearing will examine the steady decline of men participating in the labor force and the impact it has on our society, the economy, and individual and family well-being.

Upon announcing the hearing, Chairman Smith said:

“Today, there are more than seven million working-age men in America who are not employed or looking for work. Many of them have children, and without earnings they are unable to support and care for their families. We know advancing in the workforce is the best way to bring families out of poverty, while also providing the social benefits which come with men being engaged in work and family life.”
