#TaxReformTuesday: Rep. Lynn Jenkins

May 30, 2017 — Blog

In this week’s #TaxReformTuesday, Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS)—who grew up on a dairy farm near Holton, Kansas—discusses the guiding principles of pro-growth tax reform that will create a simpler, fairer tax code to improve the lives of America’s families, farmers, and ranchers.

Here’s what Rep. Jenkins said:

“Hi, I’m Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins from Kansas.

“I was raised on a dairy farm here in Kansas, and that’s where I saw firsthand the challenges and rewards that come with farming.

“Ours was a small, family operation—not at all different from other small businesses. That meant we had to balance the actual work on the farm with the bookkeeping that goes along with it.

“As a CPA, I see the need to make that bookkeeping easier for American families and businesses.

“The Ways and Means Committee has embarked on an effort to streamline the tax code for the first time since 1986.

“The guiding principles of tax reform will be beneficial to the ag community. We plan to lower tax rates for families and businesses, simplify a complex and burdensome code for filers, eliminate the destructive death tax, encourage investment.

“We believe that these principles will unburden taxpayers and spur economic growth throughout America. In the coming weeks, I look forward to speaking with local farmers, ranchers, producers, and the ag community to ensure their thoughts on tax reform are heard in Congress.”
