#TaxReformTuesday: Rep. Pat Meehan

June 20, 2017 — Blog

In this week’s #TaxReformTuesday, Rep. Pat Meehan (R-PA) discusses how tax reform will help businesses in his district compete in the global market. He explains how tax reform will help create more jobs at home and also prevent good jobs for highly-skilled American workers from going overseas.

Here’s what Rep. Meehan said:

“Hello, my name is Pat Meehan and I have the privilege of representing Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District, which is the suburbs of Philadelphia.

“One of the things that I enjoy the most when we are away from Washington is the chance to actually sit and meet my constituents. And invariably, we hear stories about the impact of business regulations, but taxes as well. And that’s one of the reasons I want to talk about how important tax reform is.

“I got a chance to go onto a factory floor earlier today and talk with a business, which has been a family business in the tool and die area for over forty-five years.

“But one of the things that would help them is a tax policy that would enable them to make the kind of investments to continue to compete in a very, very tight global market. Being able to expense up front – that kind of capital investment will allow this company to continue to compete.

“It means jobs, not only here in my district, but it also means the retention of very skilled employees that we’re not going to be able to continue to keep here in this country if we don’t have this kind of work. That’s one of the reasons that comprehensive tax reform can make a difference.”
