Ways and Means Announces Markup of Bipartisan Proposals to Hold the IRS Accountable, Provide Relief to Rural Hospitals

July 5, 2016 — Press Releases

What: Full Committee on Ways and Means Markup

Where: 1100 Longworth House Office Building

When: Thursday, July 7, at 2:00 PM ET

Live stream available HERE.

The Committee will consider the following:

H.R. 5613, Continuing Access to Hospitals Act
Sponsored by Rep. Lynn Jenkins (R-KS)
The proposal provides relief to Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) – short-term stay hospitals located in remote, rural areas – by continuing to temporarily delay enforcement of the “physician supervision requirement” through 2016.

H.R. 5523, Clyde-Hirsch-Sowers RESPECT Act
Sponsored by Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) and Rep. Joe Crowley (D-NY)
The proposal protects small business owners from Internal Revenue Service (IRS) abuse and helps ensure their assets are not wrongly seized under civil asset forfeiture policies. It would require the IRS to show probable cause that funds were derived from an illegal source and institutes a post-seizure hearing for people whose assets were seized.
