Chairman Smith Statement on Verdict in Hunter Biden Trial

June 11, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) released the following statement after a federal jury in Delaware found Hunter Biden guilty of three felony charges:

“The only reason Hunter Biden is facing accountability for his crimes today is because of the two brave IRS whistleblowers who came forward to the Ways and Means Committee and exposed how the U.S. Department of Justice shielded him from prosecution for numerous felony tax crimes for years.

“If they had not come forward, these gun charges would have been swept under the rug with a sweetheart plea agreement last July. Today’s verdict combined with the tax charges Hunter Biden faces in California are an important first step to ensuring equal application of the law, regardless of one’s last name.”
