Here’s what Chairman Brady had to say:
“Hi, I’m Kevin Brady. I represent the 8th district of Texas and I chair the House Ways and Means Committee.
“Back in February, Ways and Means Republicans started our Tax Reform Tuesday video series.
“We led off with Peter Roskam of Illinois – Chairman of our Tax Policy Subcommittee – who said:
“‘This place – Capitol Hill – is supposed to work for people. And we are determined to reform this tax code.’
“Well, since then, we’ve featured nearly 40 different House Republicans from all across the country – talking about our efforts to deliver the simple, fair, pro-growth, pro-family tax code that our nation needs, and you deserve.
“Now, I’m coming to you on this Tuesday – the ultimate Tax Reform Tuesday – with some great news.
“Just this afternoon, the House voted to pass the final version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act – historic legislation that overhauls America’s tax code for the first time since President Reagan and Congress did tax reform 31 years ago.
“So, what does that mean for you?
“It means that today’s complex, unfair, and uncompetitive tax code is about to become a thing of the past.
“And, with this bill, we’ll have a new American tax code built to help hardworking families, grow jobs and paychecks, and promote a brighter future in our country – the kind of future that my wife and I want for our two sons.
“So, on this Tax Reform Tuesday – this historic, final Tax Reform Tuesday – I have one thing to say to the American people:
“Thank you.
“It’s been a long road, and all the Washington special interests said tax reform would never happen.
“With your help – with your support – we’ve proved them wrong. And, with this bill, we’re proving to the special interests that our nation’s tax code does not belong to them anymore.
“This new tax code – America’s new tax code – belongs to you, the American people.
“And that’s exactly how it should be.”
